This is my confession.

My favourite soap opera right now is shake the tree.

It's compelling. There's a finality about the whole thing. There are only two possible results. Win gifts and walk away with your pockets swollen of gift certificates and other prizes before christmas or gamble everything for one more glittering gift, only to hear the tree break and you get zilch.

It's the same reason we watch reality TV. To see a winner and a loser.

Real life often doesn't have black and white moments. When we have contests like shake the tree it forces us to choose a side.

We want someone to win or lose. We watch or listen for reactions, real people on the spot, trying to win and in some cases failing due to greed.

I'm an addict. I love hearing the excitement of the person when you tell them they're the lucky person who's going to shake. I love hearing the resounding "WOOOOOoooooHooooooo!" of the winner as well as the "Nooooo-F@#$%^&*G-way-did-the-tree-just-break" of the loser. It's truly a beautiful thing.

Win or lose, hilarity will ensue. Shake the tree, everyday on the peak.

- Under 9 days now until christmas. While we're on the topic of giving. I haven't got my peak secret santa anything. I'll tell you who it is next Friday. They will probably get something pink and fluffy...

o2 out.
